I trained in art and photography in Bath and for a number of years worked as a teacher and headteacher in the UK and overseas. I embarked upon a change of career in 1996 to concentrate on painting and photography.

My commissioned photography is almost exclusively of people, with weddings, children and school-based work predominating. Because of the sensitive nature of 'children on the internet' I have not included any school based examples of this work.

I enjoy wedding photography and  try to include some of the stated influences in my work.             Being used to working with children,  I work quickly - to catch the moment .

In art and photography my influences include the quality and sources of light found in Rembrandt and Caravaggio paintings along with the honest realism of painters like John Constable and Andrew Wyeth.

My painted landscapes reflect the simple countryside of my locality - North Shropshire, North Wales and even my own garden. I prefer my landscapes to be still and choose not to include transient figures like animals or people. My figure painting however, places the figures at the heart of the composition - whether it is random groups in city centres or mammals from Chester Zoo.
